EXPRESS GRATITUDE by Dr. Mercola

 EXPRESS GRATITUDE by Dr. Mercola

According to the Harris Poll Happiness Index, a mere 1 in 3 Americans report being "very happy." More than half say they're frustrated at or by work.1 Other research suggests nearly 1 in 4 experience no life enjoyment at all.2 The good news is, small changes in perspective and/or behavior can add up, and practicing gratitude may be at the top of the list of strategies known to boost happiness and life satisfaction.

In "The Little Book of Gratitude," Robert Emmons notes, "We did not … get to where we are in life by ourselves. So, living in gratitude is living in truth. It is the most accurate and honest approach to life." According to Emmons, gratitude involves "affirming the good and recognizing its sources. It is the understanding that life owes me nothing and all the good I have is a gift."

Gratitude is also a form of generosity, because it involves offering or extending "something" to another person, even if it's only a verbal affirmation of thanks. After all, it's not yourself you are grateful for but rather something or someone outside of yourself. And generosity has also been shown to augment happiness. In fact, generosity and happiness are neurally linked. As noted by the authors of a recent study:3,4

"[W]e predicted that the neural link between generosity and happiness would involve functional interactions between brain regions engaged in generous behavior [temporoparietal junction (TPJ)] and those mediating happiness (ventral striatum). The results confirmed our hypotheses.

We found significantly higher levels of generous behavior and happiness, as reflected by greater TPJ activity for generous choices and generosity-related connectivity of the TPJ with striatal happiness regions in the experimental group.

We thus conclude that the interplay of these brain regions links commitment-induced generosity with happiness … [T]he amount spent did not matter … [E]ven little things have a beneficial effect — like bringing coffee to one's office mates in the morning."

Commit to Cultivating an Attitude of Gratitude

If your happiness could use a boost, this year, commit to cultivating an attitude of gratitude — every day. Gratitude not only paves the way to life satisfaction, research has also demonstrated it is the single best predictor of good relationships, and benefits both sanity and physical health. Enhancing your well-being, then, may be as simple as taking the time each day to reflect on what you're thankful for.

A simple and proven way of doing this is to keep a gratitude journal, in which you document the things you're grateful for each day. In one study,5 participants who kept a gratitude diary and reflected on what they were grateful for just four times a week for three weeks improved their depression, stress and happiness scores.

A mindfulness intervention, consisting of a mindfulness diary and mindfulness meditation, led to similar improvements. In another study, people who kept a gratitude journal reported exercising more, and had fewer visits to the doctor.6

The Many Health Benefits of Gratitude by Dr. Mercola

Aside from augmenting happiness and life satisfaction, gratitude also produces measurable effects on a number of bodily systems, including beneficial effects on mood and pleasure-related neurotransmitters, reproductive and social bonding hormones, cognition, blood pressure and more. Importantly, it lowers the stress hormone cortisol and inflammatory cytokines, which are often elevated if you have chronic disease. Health benefits associated with gratitude include:7,8

Japanese Weeding Sickle

I don't think I've mentioned this before, but since it's spring I didn't want you to miss out.  This Japanese Weeding Sickle is hands down the most useful tool I've ever had!  If you are a gardener and don't have one, I'm sure you need one.  Here is a link on Amazon but there are several other places on Amazon where you can buy them.  I have given many as gifts and everyone who has received one has agreed with me that it is indispensable!

Too Busy!

Sorry I haven't had time to post for several weeks but thought I would check in so you would know I will be back eventually.😀. If you are interested in what I (and others from our commuity) have been doing you can check out our progress here at The Woodlands facebook page.

The Michelle Moore Show

I am very impressed with The Michelle Moore Show on Rumble.  Her goal is to wake up the nation by presenting enlightening, researched topics through interviewing well-informed guests.  I highly recommend her show!

Everyone needs to watch this one with Jaco Booyens on sex trafficking.  It was presented last week on the day before the release of his movie, Sex Nation, which can be streamed from sexnationfilm.com.   The interview is excellent!  I have not yet done so (since I just found out about it this morning) but plan to stream the movie very soon.

And this interview of Michelle that Dr. Scott Young did.  Sooo good!

There are so many great episodes of her shows with a wealth of sometimes shocking, but always enlightening information on Rumble.  Please check her out.

MHz Choice TV -- Great Shows

Are you familiar with MHz Choice TV?  Here's a screenshot of the home page on their website:

We became familiar with MHz when searching for a way to watch "Montalbano" which was recommended by Catharine Austin Fitts on her Solari website.  So far we have watched several episodes of "Montalbano," "Don Matteo," and "Bulletproof Heart" from Italy,  all of "The Embassy" from Spain, and episodes of "Murder In . . .," "Alice Nevers," and "A French Village" from France.  There are shows from 31 countries on the site.  All that we have watched so far have been excellent!  Right now our favorite is "Murder In . . ." Each episode takes place in a different town/village/area of France.   The only downside is that they are close captioned but there are so many things that outweight the inconvenience of reading the conversation: the scenery is fabulous, the acting superb, and the storylines are intelligent, engaging and believable.
MHz is a subscription website but we feel the $7.99/month after the free trial is well worth it.  We may never watch another American TV show again and highly recommend you check it out.

Growing Vegetables in the Kitchen

Did you happen to watch the video I posted on February 12 entitled "10 Vegetables You Can Regrow from Kitchen Scraps to Create a Recurring Harvest"?  I had never heard of this, but thought it would be a great way to supplement our vegetables if it worked, so on that day (Sunday) I put the remains of four green onions and one bunch of celery in water to see what would happen. The next day I added two heads of romaine lettuce.  Here they are on Monday when I added the lettuce.  You can see the green onions have already begun to grow!!

Today, two weeks later, this is how they look:

I'm very impressed with the results so far.  In fact, I need to begin harvesting the green onions!  It looks as if I could have a continuous supply of them with no trouble at all.  I will wait to see how long it takes the celery and romaine to be at harvest level.  It does look as if there is potential for regrowing all of these.  The video says to plant them in your garden once they begin growing.  Since it is still winter here, I will keep them in water to see if there is a limit to how much they will produce, or maybe when they have grown to what appears to be the maximum potential in water  I will plant them in pots until they can be transplanted outside.

In a couple of weeks I will post another photo of the progress.  I thought you might be inspired to try growing vegetables from kitchen scraps, too, if you saw how easy it is and how quickly they reach harvest level.

"Will You Live a Life of the Miraculous?" Nathan French

I love Nathan French!  He is so joyful, enthusiastic, courageous and contagious.  This is an encouraging word for us that was posted on The Elijah List today challenging us to begin actually believing Jesus and doing the works He commissioned us to do!

"Will You Live a Life of the Miraculous?"

Nathan French, Gig Harbor, WA

Prophetic word of the Lord received on February 4, 2023:

Faith Moves Mountains

"Do you wonder why many are not demonstrating the miraculous? Many leaders don't want to look like they are not anointed. They fear they will lose their following if nothing happens when they pray, so they pray as though they expect Me to do it all on My own. I have called them to pray as co-laborers. I want My leaders to pray, knowing I have already anointed them to accomplish the supernatural with Me. Many want to say, 'It's up to the Lord' so they will not have to take responsibility for not having faith. Faith moves mountains."

"Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, 'Why could we not cast it out?' So Jesus said to them, 'Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, "Move from here to there," and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.'" (Matthew 17:19-20 NKJV)

"Faith can cause substance out of what is not yet seen—something from nothing—or much more of the same substance than you began with."

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1 NKJV)

"It takes faith to believe for miracles. It takes faith to see the truth and believe it and walk with Me, who is the Truth."

Demonstrating the Miraculous! Be Delivered From Unbelief!

"Demonstrating the miraculous causes My people to rely on My Spirit and to trust in Me, who is Spirit and Truth. Believing is necessary—not optional. Be right with My Father and walk in My light."

"For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light." (Ephesians 5:8 NKJV)

"'Greater things will you do' is not just a saying—it's the reality for all who believe."

"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father." (John 14:12 NKJV) (Photo via Unsplash)

"Teachers of unbelief who use words like 'God is sovereign' often look to justify why they don't believe by saying, 'It's all up to the Lord.' Many are even protecting the very spirit of unbelief they have befriended. I want to deliver My people from this blocker of the supernatural once and for all.

"Fasting and prayer will cause this spirit called 'unbelief' to be dislodged, and each one who desires freedom shall have it. I have come to give you life, and to destroy the works of the devil, and deliver you into the victory that I paid to win for you."

"...For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil." (1 John 3:8 NKJV)

Choose to Partner with Me!

"Will you live a life of the miraculous? You get to choose to partner with Me to bring it to pass. Be a demonstrator, not just a person who talks a good talk. Talk is just talk, but walking out a normal supernatural life is what I am looking for in every person. Pray! Then move with Me. Speak! Then take action. Then you will see the reward!"

Turn ONE Sweet Potato Into 100 LBS Of Sweet Potatoes By Growing SWEET PO...

Can you tell I'm getting excited about gardening?  Three gardening videos in a row!  This one was very helpful.  I have placed a sweet potato in soil in a sunny spot to begin the process to have it ready when it's time to plant.

10 Vegetables You Can Regrow from Kitchen Scraps to Create a Recurring Harvest

This is such a good idea!  I had no idea I could regrow vegetables from those I use often in cooking--like celery, green onions, romaine & other lettuce, & cabbage and several others.  I had just thrown away the ends of green onions and celery after making chicken salad today so after watching this I dug them out of the trash and put them in jars with a little water.  If they need to be planted before it's warm enough to add them to the garden, I will transplant them to pots and see what happens.  I need a greenhouse!

Cheesy Potato Corn Chowder

I tried this good soup a couple of months ago and thought I had posted it, but I guess I didn't since I couldn't find it when I searched.  I like to post recipes here so I can find them if I'm out shopping and forget the ingredients.  So here goes:

Cheesy Potato Corn Chowder

3 c. (or more) potatoes, cubed

1 large onion, chopped

2 stalks celery, chopped

1/4 c. butter

1 14 oz. can chicken broth

1 4 oz, can chopped green chilies

1 can, or 2 c. frozen corn

2 c. Velveeta

Milk, or part 1/2 and 1/2 to desired consistency

Salt & pepper to taste

Melt butter in large pan.  Cook onions & celery till softened.  Add potatoes and chicken broth.  Cook till potatoes are tender (15-20 minutes).  With a fork mash some of the potatoes to help thicken the soup.  Add green chilies, corn, milk, cheese and seasonings.  Heat till cheese is melted.  Ham can be added if you would rather not have a meatless soup.

I'm also thinking it might be good with ground beef.  If you try it, let me know.
