Buttery Biscuits

    Our family likes creamed turkey on biscuits.  Since our granddaughter was home from California and I had frozen turkey leftover from our Christmas dinner, it seemed like a good time to get us all together and use my leftover turkey.  The biscuit recipe I have used from the past has always been adequate but not impressive so I decided to look for a new recipe.  I found this one.  After making a few minor adjustments--adding more salt and decreasing the butter from 1/2 c. to 1/3 c.-- I think it is perfect so I'm posting it to share and also so I can easily find it.  I will add it to the Recipes #1 page also. 

Buttery Biscuits

2 c. all-purpose flour
2 ½ tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 t. salt
1 T. white sugar
1/3 c. butter
3/4 c. buttermilk (Or 3/4 T. white vinegar added to 3/4 c. milk)

      Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

      Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar. Cut in 1/3 cup butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. (Freeze the butter and grate it first, then add to flour to make incorporating so much easier).  Mix in the buttermilk. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead a few times.  Roll to 1/2 to 3/4 inches thick. Cut into squares or use a round cutter. Place on ungreased baking sheet.
      Bake 15 minutes in the preheated oven, until lightly browned.

The Spirit of the Lord says this day, "I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD, and I shall protect and honor such who have gone out into the fields and done the work, who have truly shepherded the sheep—not in a way that alienates the sheep from Me, the Lord your God, but in a way that draws them to Me; for I desire a close communion with My children, and I desire to see them work the harvest [rather] than going around causing division and confusion among the sheep. A Good Day For Soup!

                This is our view through the front door today--a cold, snowy, blustery day! 

 

          What a perfect time to try a new soup recipe!  I searched online for a recipe using hamburger and found this one for Cheeseburger Soup.  I changed a couple of the measurements and it turned out delicious so thought I would add it to my blog recipes.

Cheeseburger Soup
1 pound ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
3/4 cup shredded carrots
3/4 cup diced celery

1/2 teaspoon dried basil

1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes

4 tablespoons butter divided

32 oz. chicken broth

4 cups peeled and diced potatoes

1/4 cup all purpose flour

1 lb of Velveeta processed cheese cubed or- 2 c. shredded cheddar

2 cups milk

3/4 teaspoon salt

¼ to 1/2 teaspoon pepper

1/4 cup sour cream

Instructions 

     Brown the ground beef in 3 quart saucepan. Drain and set aside.

In the same saucepan add 1 T butter and add onion, shredded carrots, parsley flakes, basil and celery. Saute until tender.

     Add the broth, potatoes and beef and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 10-12 minutes or until potatoes are tender.

      In small skillet melt remaining butter (3 T) and add the flour. Cook and stir for 3-5 minutes or until bubbly. Add to the soup and bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 2 minutes. Reduce heat to low.

      Stir in the cheese, milk, salt and pepper. Cook and stir until cheese melts. Remove from heat and blend in sour cream.

I'm getting very discouraged in talking with friends.  Many people refuse to look at the facts, or do any research, so they continue to blindly trust the government and mainstream media and therefore take the "vaccine" and even give it to their children.  If they would do their research (or listen to those of us who have) they would discover that young people are seldom seriously affected by Covid.  In the semblance of protecting their children they are in fact causing great harm to them.

Back from vacation

 We've just returned from a fun vacation in Florida.  While visiting Myakka River State Park with a friend we talked with a park ranger who told us about the Deep Hole.  He said it is a sink hole on the property that is estimated to be 130 feet deep where alligators congregate.  They haven't figured out why this place is so attractive to the gators but he highly recommended it if you could make the 2.2 mile walk.  The main drawback was that only 30 tickets were available each day on a first come/first served basis beginning at 8:00 a.m.  He said the tickets are usually gone by 10:00 so we didn't think there was a great rush to get one.  But a couple of days later on our last day in Florida, Country Guy and I arrived a little before 8:00 to stand in line.  The tickets went fast that day and while waiting our turn to register we began to be concerned we weren't going to make it.  Fortunately, when we got to the desk the ranger said there were 5 tickets left.  Whew!!

The hike was a relatively easy walk on a flat dirt path with a few ruts.  It was totally worth the effort when we saw all those alligators!  If you are in Florida, I highly recommend a trip to see these amazing creatures!

"Homes of Harvest and Habitation - Will Be Family" Katie Barker

For almost all of my life as a Christian I have longed to be part of a group of people with this vision.  I still do.  If you live nearby and belong to one of these, won't you invite me to participate?  Or if you have been longing for one, too, let's start one.

"Homes of Harvest and Habitation - Will Be Family"

A few years ago, the Lord began to speak to me about 'Hubs of Harvest and Transformation' that were arising in the earth. These hubs were places birthed and fueled by prayer and praise; many were drawn to them as the glory of God was seen in these gatherings. The people were equipped and sent out to be agents of transformation in their regions and areas of influence. The raw and real transformational power of the Word, love and Spirit of God were displayed.

Recently, the Lord has expanded on this word and has changed the terminology of these hubs to 'Homes of Habitation and Harvest' to better show the way He is moving in these places – the focus of these hubs being 'FAMILIES.' The Lord is highlighting that the local gathering of Believers is to be like family. From the place of deep relationship, transformation will be seen in the lives of individuals, and also regions, as people walk in the fullness of the plans the Lord has for them.

Hubs are 'Homes'

I heard the Lord say, "I am changing the phrasing so My people have a better understanding of the functioning of these hubs; for they are not only equipping and sending centers, but are homes where My people are nourished, equipped, counseled, loved and accepted. I am drawing people together as families. These homes will be places where My people encounter My heart, Word and ways as they journey together. I am drawing My people back to the importance of 'many parts but one body.' I am expressing this through the revelation of family. Each member has unique gifts and every family member is loved, appreciated and equipped to step into the fullness of the plans I have for them. There is no competition as each family member is a cheerleader for each other, supporting them on their journey and the path I have for them."

"For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ." (1 Corinthians 12:12, ESV)

Homes of Habitation and the Fire of God

"My fire will fall on these homes for they will be marked with My presenceand power. These homes will be homes of habitation, for My people will seek and steward My presence. These homes will be places that embrace My refining fire, for their desire is to be continually transformed into ever-closer alignment with Me. My fire will consume everything not of Me and only that which is pure will remain. Those with clean hands and pure hearts will be the ones to carry My fire. My people, in these homes, will be My fire-carriers; they will carry My fire and presence to their regions and draw many to Me as they see the transformational impact of My truth, love and power at work."

"Who, then, is allowed to ascend the mountain of Yahweh? And who has the privilege of entering into God's Holy Place? Those who are clean – whose works and ways are pure, whose hearts are true and sealed by the truth, those who never deceive, whose words are sure." (Psalm 24:3-4, TPT)

Transformational Focus

"These homes have a focus on transformation for they model My walk. I came to bring life and abundant life. I came to set captives free. I came to see people transformed. These homes will have a focus on being the light and salt in their region. They will have a desire to see transformation in the lives of individuals and in their region and nation. They will walk in John 13:35 for My love will be evident in their walk."

"For when you demonstrate the same love I have for you by loving one another, everyone will know that you're My true followers." (John 13:35, TPT)

Homes Built on God's Direction

"These homes won't be built to the 'usual' plan of the day or to the structure of man but will be built on My direction. They won't function in the usual way but in the new way. These homes have yielded to My hand and have allowed Me to clean out what is not of Me. They have allowed Me to break down structures and ways of man so only My ways remain. They have been diligent to submit to the work of My Spirit. They have laid down that which glorifies man so only that which glorifies Me remains. From this place, I can build My Kingdom and advance My plans. They must be intentional to remain in this place of surrender and humility to allow My transformational work to continue in and through them."

Transition to 'Family'

"I am transitioning My people to 'family.' I am changing their speech to talk about family and value family. I am shifting mindsets. I am raising up and highlighting Kingdom family. Much restoration, healing and liberty will come as My people embrace the Kingdom family I am leading them to and have positioned them in. Many will be drawn to these hubs that function as families as the embrace My heart and ways. A shift is upon My Body as I move My people to the true meaning of family. There are some that will also see Me transition and move them to these family hubs to position them for what I will bring forth through these hubs in the time to come."

New Cookbook

       

In 2011, I decided to have the recipes I had been posting on this blog made into a cookbook which I entitled, Recipes from Shalom in the Wilderness, to give my children and grandchildren for Christmas.  As I researched I discovered it was much more economical to get a bunch of them than a few so I ordered 200.  I enjoyed giving them to friends, family, guests, anyone who seemed interested until I had depleted my supply.  In 2015, I republished it again under the name The Village Cooks which we used as a fundraiser for Martinsville On The Move. 

 Well, I was out of cookbooks again, so this time I went back to the original name and ordered 200 more books. They were delivered on Christmas Eve.  This new edition has 50 or more new recipes so it is larger than the other two.  I'm donating 100 of them as a fundraiser for The Woodlands--the park we are developing in Martinsville so all the proceeds from the sale of these will go to The Woodlands.  If you are interested in purchasing one (or more to give as gifts) contact me through the email listed for this blog.  The cost is $15 if the book needs to be mailed, or you can pick one up at Changing Hands Resale Shoppe in Martinsville for $10.

These recipes are either handed down through generations or gleaned from family, friends, or other cookbooks--some I've not seen anywhere else.  As I was telling a friend the other day, there are some recipes in this book for which I would pay $10 each!  So if you are needing some new ones I would be glad to share the book with you.  If you don't want to purchase the book, almost all of the recipes have been posted on this blog over the years--there's just no index. 😫
